What will my child be doing in 3rd grade?
I get asked a lot what will my child be learning this year. I know that most of you all know that our state and county has made a move to a new set of standards that have moved around what our students need to know in each grade. Since that is happened I have given you the below link so that you can see the common core state standards for third grade. http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/3/introduction
This website breaks down for you what I am expected to teach your child in math and what they should know before they start fourth grade. I personally think that this site is very helpful for parents because it gives you an overview of what I will be teaching and then it goes more in depth by actually given you the standard. So as a parent if you ask your child what were your I can statements from math class today you would be able to pull up this link and look at each standard and figure out what standard I was teaching today. This is because my I can statements come straight from the standards that you see on this website. Since this website is all about standards it will be used heavily in my classroom since I base all my lessons of the standards that you see. But one way that I will incorporate the standards that you see on this website into my actual lesson is through my I can statements. I have I can statements wrote for every lesson I do and I put them on the board for the students to see and be able to assess if they met or did not met the I can statement. So overall I think that this website is good for parents to become more familiar with the content that is being taught in third grade.

Apps That You Need To Know About
In my classroom I believe in embracing as much technology as possible. So when I came across this list of apps that could be used in the classroom I uploaded them to the schools iPads. I wanted to share this with the parents of my students so that if you had a device that had an app store you could download these apps for your student to have extra practice.
Here is the website: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AptUTAOwIGludFNzTXRaS2xpQ1ZQMnJjVkU0Mmh4SHc&gid=2
Having downloaded all of the free apps I think that this web site list has a lot to offer for extra practice for my students. How I plan to use it in my classroom is by having students be able to use the iPad games when they get done with there work early or during personal activity time (PAT). I think that these apps are very good at reinforcing the information that I am teaching in the classroom.
Tips for Manipulative Use in the Classroom.
It is very important for students to have visuals while learning new concepts that is why the use of manipulative's in the classroom is very important.
This is a website gives teachers ideas on how to use manipulatives in the classroom. I really liked this website because it tells you:
- What the manipulative is.
- How that manipulative helps students learn.
- Sample activities to use with the manipulative.
- Recommended website that have interactive manipulative or ones you can print off.
How I plan to use this website in my classroom is by taking all the above information I get and incorporate into my lessons so that my students get to see a visual of what they are learning.
